Designated and Declared Pests

Mosquito (Culex tarsalis)

Culex tarsalis mosquitoes, the species that can carry West Nile virus, tend to inhabit lower elevation drainages in Fremont County. FCWP traps tens of thousands of mosquitoes each summer at sites near riparian areas from Lander to Riverton for monitoring purposes.

About Zika

The two species of mosquitoes that can carry and transmit Zika virus, Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus, have never been detected in Wyoming so it is highly unlikely someone would contract Zika virus from a mosquito bite in our state.
